ABOUT
DEBRA MAGELLAN,
ARTIST
About: Image
"My brush is my rose, my music lifts the soul and my art is my dance!"
About: About
My adventure into the art world started with the sheer desire of wanting to create something on canvas, which instinctively started with my fingers. Primarily a self taught artist, the lure of abstract art was an easy one since realistic art is not in my resume. The idea of creating a work of art without realistic images and still tell a story for myself and the viewer has become my passion!
I am attracted to the the use of acrylic and paper as my medium. I find that adding paper adds another element of depth and mystery to my art. My process is simple: just put something down and away we go. I allow the art to lead the way as images form through the layers of paint and media. I rely on my intuition as my guide and the outcome is as unpredictable as life - full of surprises - which is why I keep coming back for more. These are the unknown parts of myself coming to surface on canvas. Each viewer reflects their own story into their inner world upon viewing, a complimentary outcome of the unlimited potential that my art has in finding a loving place to hang!
Bio:
Debra Magellan was born in San Diego, California. She started using her creativity professionally in her early 30’s when she started up her own clothing business and created two successful apparel lines for women and children all consisting of custom hand painted and embellished garments.
Debra began painting three years ago after her curiosity led her to an oil painting class. After a few sessions on oils, she soon discovered she wanted her art to be less intentional and more explorative; she shifted away from oils, bought her first Acrylic paints and began the exploration into her own magic and creativity. Debra’s first paintings were done with her hands, curious only to see what would show up.
Last year, she began taking formal art lessons to explore abstract and found a new love for mixed media. Debra has been juried into six local gallery showings and her first National show at Ashton Gallery in San Diego for “Mr. Big’s Lover”. It is her belief that we are all artists in some form, just waiting to burst out into the light of our own creativity.
